HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER (2 Positions)


Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role is to promote a safe working environment in 

ensuring that workplaces comply with health and safety regulations by identifying hazards, 

conducting risk assessments, and implementing safety measures. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Compliance Monitoring: To ensure that all workplace activities adhere to health and 

safety regulations; to be in alignment to the standards.

2. Risk Assessment: To conduct thorough risk assessments in order, identify potential 

hazards in the workplace. This involves evaluating work environments and practices to 

determine areas that may pose risks to employee health or safety.

3. Policy Development: For developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety 

policies to create guidelines that align with legal requirements while addressing specific 

workplace needs.

4. Training Programs: Organise training sessions for employees on various safety topics 

such as emergency procedures, proper equipment uses, hazard recognition, tool box talks, 

first Aid drills etc.

5. Incident Investigation: In the event of accidents or near misses, you are responsible to 

investigate the incidents to determine the root causes, prepare reports detailing findings 

and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

6. Safety Audits: Regular inspections of the workplace, workers and Tool box talks must be 

held, Incident, Job safety analysis, Work Register forms kept when well filled for 

Auditing; and close non-conformities identified.

7. Communication: Effective communication is essential; officer must relay important 

safety information to staff at all levels within the organization. This includes preparing 

reports for management on safety performance metrics

Education background and Skills

 A bachelor’s degree in occupational health, environmental science, or a related field.

 Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH 

(National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) certification are often 

preferer.

 Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation 

is crucial for a Health and Safety Officer]

 

Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data related to workplace incidents helps in 

developing effective prevention strategies.

 Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for 

conducting training sessions and preparing reports.

 Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail ensures that no potential hazards go unnoticed 

during inspections or audits.

 Organizational Skills: The ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently is vital in 

maintaining compliance across various departments.
