Description


Judicial Service Commission is hiring a   Principal Librarian  


Key Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Managing the acquisition of library resources, including reading material and electronic or other equipment;

  • Reviewing and evaluating resource material, such as book reviews and catalogues, in order to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources;

  • Establishing and maintaining library services in all Courts and the Judicial Training Institute;

  • Developing library and information services policies and procedures;

  • Overseeing the provision of effective library or information services and resources, including web-based, audio-visual, and other emerging technologies;

  • Providing research services and access to information for government staff and the public;

  • Assembling and indexing databases of library materials for easy retrieval;

  • Preparing annual work plans, budgets and procurement plans for the Judiciary library and information services and managing their implementation;

  • Overseeing the training and professional development of library staff;

  • Supervising the performance of staff in the library; and

  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:



  • Applicants shall be Ugandan citizens holding a Bachelor’s Degree in either Library and Information Science or Library and Information Studies (at least a Second-Class Lower Division) from a recognised university or awarding institution.

  • A Master’s degree in either Library and Information Science or Library and Information Studies from a recognised University or awarding institution is an added advantage.

  • At least six (6) years’ working experience, three (3) of which years should have been served at the level of Senior Librarian in Government or at an equivalent level of experience in a reputable organisation.

  • Submit JSC Application Form 2 to the email addresses for each position, along with the following documents included, in the order below, all as a single PDF document:

    • A copy of the applicant’s national identity card.

    • A passport-size photograph.

    • An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV).

    • Copies of academic certificates and transcripts certified by the issuing institution. Note: The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) should be certified by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

    • Names, contacts and letters of recommendation of two (2) professional and two (2) character referees.

    • A certified copy of the applicant’s latest and complete Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities from the Inspectorate of Government.

    • Copies of previous appointment, confirmation and promotion letters (where applicable).

    • Any other relevant documents.
